Believe it or not, the Miami Dolphins should have the depth to take their latest injury setback in stride
The Miami Dolphins get hit with another injury to their rookie draft class — but they’re as well equipped to handle the adversity as anywhere on the team.
The Miami Dolphins don’t have much in the way of depth on their 2026 roster. That’s to be expected given the team’s salary cap restrictions this season.
They’ve also been relatively fortunate to this point in the season in terms of injuries. The team has lost rookie linebacker Trey Moore with a leg injury. And 2025 first-round draft choice Kenneth Grant has landed on injured reserve too, but both are expected to return at some point this season — Grant potentially sooner rather than later.
There’s a new injury development for the Miami Dolphins. But, believe it or not, the Dolphins should be positioned to handle this latest turn in stride.
Miami Dolphins reportedly set to lose rookie defender Kyle Louis for several weeks to an MCL sprain
Rookie defender Kyle Louis has pin-balled on the roster between a formal linebacker and a formal safety. In reality, he’s a bit of a tweener who should be expected to fill in as a “big nickel” defender on the hash for Miami. But Louis hasn’t necessarily pushed for a great deal of playing time in the early opportunities this season.
And, what’s more, the Miami Dolphins already consider themselves to have three starters in the safety room. Fellow rookie Michael Taaffe logged major snaps in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Dante Trader Jr. was expected to make a leap in 2026 and logged an interception in Week 1, same as Taaffe. Zayne Anderson, the third safety, has been with Jeff Hafley for several seasons.
“I treat them all like they’re three starters, and you kind of saw them rotate and play. Obviously, we had the two interceptions, but that’s how it will be. It depends on what personnel package we started in, what they started in, but all three of those guys are starters,” said Hafley of the safety room on Sunday afternoon. Louis is a piece of the puzzle long-term. But if Miami considers themselves to have three safety starters, they’re as well put as any position on the roster to take Louis’ injury in stride.
