Don’t overlook this big reason why the reports at Miami Dolphins minicamp are getting more promising

The Miami Dolphins’ spring and early summer has been working at a fast pace. The team worked fast to find new leadership. Miami got an early start opening the facility to players. They moved quickly to secure a new quarterback. The team quickly loaded up on draft picks to restock the roster.

And all accounts from OTAs have had the Dolphins working through a lot of volume in the way of installs. But the tide has turned this week at minicamp. It seems to be bearing some fruit for the Dolphins. Don’t sleep on the power of repetition.

“I think what you’re going to see is we’ve been really heavy on the installs and we’re starting to come back to like install one and two now…We’ve installed a lot just to try to get it in and have film of it as we get into training camp and the season. But I think you can see the confidence building now that we’re kind of going back through it again.”

The chance to do it again is a powerful thing. You learn lessons from your past failures. There’s a better perspective of the whole picture. And after weeks of drinking from a firehose, the Dolphins are now getting a chance to sip through a straw…or at least through a smaller hose.

It sounds like it has helped the execution. The reviews from those in attendance this week have been more forgiving to the Dolphins’ offense — even as questions linger at wide receiver. Tight end Greg Dulcich was asked about the chance to double back on Wednesday.

“Yeah, you install stuff the first time, you want to get all those details figured out and it’s new sort of stuff,” said Dulcich. “And then the second time you reintroduce it, now it’s how much have you retained, how much do you remember and all those minute things, how can those translate to on the field and do that at a high speed and do that with good execution.”

Miami’s only got a few sessions left before it will be time for summer vacation. And, after that, the team will hope to pick things up at training camp with this gauntlet of concepts from the spring. And, currently, a few chances to circle back.
