Former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier finds a new home
The former Miami Dolphins general manager has found a new home.
Of all the people that the Miami Dolphins moved on from this offseason, only a handful have yet to find a new home. The most powerful among them, and the primary constructor of the past several iterations of Miami Dolphins builds, was among them. Until today.
Former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier was the first to be let go in what has become a sweeping wave of change. He’s among the last to find a new gig — but he has indeed found one.
Former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier signing on with the Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are adding Chris Grier t0 their ranks. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that he’s been hired as a personnel executive. It’s not all that much different than Miami hiring Jon Robinson to a similar title under new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan. Robinson, of course, was a frustrating general manager in Tennessee — much like Grier was in Miami.
It’s the first new team for Chris Grier since the turn of the millennium. Grier spent a quarter century holding a series of titles for the Miami Dolphins. He finished nearly a 10-year run as general manager with an 82-83 record. But, of course, the biggest critique was how Grier’s teams could not break through in the postseason.
That’s now Jon-Eric Sullivan’s problem. Grier now joins a franchise in Detroit that is looking to recapture their newfound swagger. Detroit won 27 games in two seasons in 2023 and 2024 before sliding into a last place finish in the NFC North in 2025 — albeit with a 9-8 record. Grier landing with the Lions closes another loose end from the 2026 reset. Here’s to happier days ahead for everyone involved.
