The Miami Dolphins‘ 2026 season is off and running. Kind of. The Miami Dolphins fell to the Las Vegas Raiders, 27-13, on Sunday afternoon.
It was a frustrating watch. There were some flashes — but also a number of issues in all three phases that helped contribute to the defeat. One issue on offense? The sacks. Quarterback Malik Willis was sacked five times by the Raiders’ defense — with pressure mounting in the second half as the Dolphins trailed by multiple scores. The game situation be damned. Willis wants you to place the blame for those plays in one direction this evening. At him.

“You can just blame (the sacks) all on me. I’ve got to take care of the ball, and I’ve got to do right by my offensive line. Get the ball out. And that’s everybody. It takes all 11. I’ve got to make sure the receivers are in the right spot. Got to make sure I’m doing the right thing. We’ve got to make sure our backs are doing the right thing. It all works together. But you can blame the sacks on me. A sack is a quarterback stat, and I’m going to take the o-line out for that.”

The film may ultimately confirm Willis’ assessment of the five sacks. But it may also tell a different story, too. If there was no where to go with the ball, or in instances where the protection breaks down immediately, it could be determined that some of those sacks were inevitable. But Willis is saying the “right” thing here as the quarterback. It all starts and ends with the quarterback for many — it comes with the territory. The film assessment still needs to be done. But Willis is getting ahead of it. He wants you to place the blame for those sacks on him.
