Minnesota Vikings make one roster move official while adding an intriguing defensive piece
Jamal Adams’ season is officially over, and the Minnesota Vikings have used the roster spot 0n an intriguing player.
The Minnesota Vikings got some brutal news coming out of Saturday afternoon’s 13-10 win over the New York Giants with the injury to safety Jamal Adams. He had flashed in a big way on Saturday before going down non-contact on the Jaxson Dart touchdown pass to Malachi Fields.
On Monday, the Vikings officially placed Adams on injured reserve and added an intriguing cornerback in Bryce Phillips.
Minnesota Vikings sign cornerback Bryce Phillips
Having a safety go down, but signing a cornerback is very interesting when it comes to the roster math. It likely speaks volumes about how the safety position is structured, especially after the training camp that Jacob Thomas has had.
Phillips is an interesting player. The 5-11, 202-pound cornerback went undrafted out of San Diego State. He initially transferred to the Aztecs out of Tennessee State ahead of the 2024 season and had some on-ball success with two interceptions and 10 pass breakups. At Tennessee State, he had 18 pass breakups across two years.
Phillips also has a brother in the NFL, with Clark Phillips III playing cornerback for the Atlanta Falcons. He’s also a better athlete than his brother, along with having significantly better size. Coming out of college, he went undrafted and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, but was waived before the end of training camp.
He adds to a cornerback room that currently is set in the top four with Byron Murphy Jr., Isaiah Rodgers, James Pierre, and Charles Demmings. After that, intrigue is there to see if anyone can make the roster, but it will be an uphill battle, after the Vikings had the No. 2 pass defense with just three cornerbacks on the active roster for half the season. A good finish to training camp could land him a practice squad spot.
