The Minnesota Vikings decided to go outside the organization to make their general manager hire by hiring Nolan Teasley of the Seattle Seahawks.

It was quite an interesting hire for the Vikings. He was the only candidate without a professional connection to the organization, but has developed a relationship with head coach Kevin O’Connell over the years.

Being that Teasley is coming from outside of the organization, there are a lot of questions that need to be asked and answered. Said answers could change a lot about the direction of the organization. What are the biggest questions for the Vikings to answer now that Teasley has the general manager job?

Minnesota Vikings general manager Nolan Teasley

  • Teasley was with the Seattle Seahawks starting in 2013 as an intern.
  • He was on the pro personnel side from 2013-2022 before becoming assistant general manager in 2023.
  • Was reportedly instrumental in helping facilitate the Russell Wilson trade.

Front office structure

Whenever a new general manager comes into the building, they will inevitably bring in their own guys and systems. That often means significant changes. In Teasley’s case, that may not happen overnight.

His hiring is in a weird spot of the NFL calendar. The front office season ends right after the NFL Draft, so most scouts and personnel have already moved on to other teams, making it that much harder for Teasley to bring in new faces. Plus, the Wilfs might want him to keep a lot of the front office for at least a year, because they made it clear how they believed it was the decision maker’s fault for the issues, not the information being given.

Things could especially get interesting with the Vikings reportedly having multiple members of the front office having expiring contracts.

Quarterback position

When you don’t have a bona fide starting quarterback in the building, there is a lot more leeway when it comes to the future of the franchise. They don’t have to feel trapped to go in a certain direction. With that in mind, what Teasley thinks of the quarterbacks in the building will come into play more than it would otherwise.

He doesn’t have any real investment in either Kyler Murray or J.J. McCarthy. That can be a big reason that prompts a potential trade of whoever loses the quarterback battle. Having that element at play makes things really interesting for what the future could hold.

Future extensions

The same thing that goes with the quarterback position also tracks with the rest of the roster. We don’t know what Teasley thinks of anybody the Vikings have, and that creates a very uncertain future for many Vikings.

There are four players who are in line for extentions right now that make a lot of sense.

Going into the NFL Draft, reports were that the Vikings had extension for both Addison and O’Neill built into the budget. Will Teasley believe both are worth extending? Only time will tell.
