The New Orleans Saints have a new potential answer for their offensive tackle spot opposite of Taliese Fuaga. With the pageantry of the NFL Draft, they got to share an awesome, heartfelt moment with their latest addition to the trenches.

Saints post phone call with Kelvin Banks Jr. after picking him

Via their social media, the Saints have unveiled the beloved phone call with their latest first-round pick, Kelvin Banks Jr. out of Texas.

  • In 2024, he started 15 games at left tackle and anchored a Texas offensive line that was named a finalist for the Joe Moore Award, annually awarded to the top offensive line in college football.
  • Won the 2024 Outland Trophy, awarded to the best lineman in college football, and the 2024 Lombardi Award, annually given to the nation's top offensive lineman. — New Orleans Saints PR

The Saints also released Banks' live video reaction to getting draft by New Orleans. He was incredibly emotional, leading to one of the most intriguing reactions of the whole first round.

"They can bank on me giving 100% of myself to the game of football and to the Saints organization." — Banks after getting picked by New Orleans

The future on their offensive line

Kellen Moore has locked in another piece of his offensive line. Banks' projection for next season is a bit unknown. He could slot in at guard or replace Trevor Penning at tackle.

Mickey Loomis announced on Wednesday that the Saints will not exercise Penning's fifth-year option on his rookie contract. He may not be in the long-term fold for the Saints, so the selection of Banks makes plenty of sense when you look ahead for Moore's offense.

We will see what Moore's plan for Banks is as a rookie. Now, they've got a young OT duo that should excite fans for years to come.
