The Oklahoma Sooners have been very active lately, whether it be in recruiting and making sure they keep up their visits, or whether it's in the transfer portal. They have made some impressions the last few weeks, one to the best available RB.
The Sooners were able to land one of the best RBs in the country in Jaydn Ott, and with that, started a chain reaction. The Sooners then lost a player who really had a chance at having an improved role in 2025.
But, Sam Franklin, after seeing Ott was committed to the Sooners, decided to transfer and find a place where he could have a bigger role.
Oklahoma Sooners RB Sam Franklin transfers
Sam Franklin transferred from UT Martin in 2024 after a stellar FCS career. At UT Martin, he rushed for over 2,000 yards and 19 touchdowns in two seasons, including nearly 1,400 yards and 11 scores in 2023, earning FCS All-American honors. His speed and playmaking ability made him a promising addition to Oklahoma’s roster under running backs coach DeMarco Murray.
In 2024, Franklin played in 12 games for the Sooners but had a limited role in a deep running back group that included Jovantae Barnes, Xavier Robinson, Gavin Sawchuk, and Taylor Tatum. He carried the ball 18 times for 132 yards, averaging 7.3 yards per carry, and contributed on special teams as a kick returner.
Oklahoma’s offense struggled in their first SEC season, finishing 6-6 overall and 2-6 in conference, which limited Franklin’s opportunities. But the only bright spot of the horrid offense was their run game, and despite injuries, they still approached it with the next man up mentality.
However, Franklin has now entered the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility left. With Oklahoma adding transfer running back Jaydn Ott from Cal, Franklin is now looking for a program where he can take on a bigger role. His proven production and efficiency make him a valuable option for potential suitors.
2026 4-star running back committed to Oklahoma Sooners just got a very enticing offer from SEC foe
That would be a crazy flip.
