Derek Carr expected to start in 2025
According to Nick Underhill, Derek Carr is expected to be retained by the Saints. There's been some belief that the Saints may move on from him this offseason in some fashion, but that does not seem to be the expectation as of now.
Sounds like the Saints plan to keep Derek Carr at QB. Mickey Loomis said they feel like they got a QB they can win with, and Kellen Moore said the team feels fortunate to have Carr. Moore and Carr have met. Sounds like it went well. Still have some contract stuff to figure.
John Hendrix also shared this sort of sentiment alongside Underhill. Clearly, there's been discussions regarding the topic this week at the NFL Scouting Combine.
The New Orleans Saints have many decisions to make in the next couple of weeks, but one appears to have been made already.
Derek Carr is expected to be the team's quarterback in 2025, Athlon Sports has learned while at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week.
For New Orleans, this will terrify many fans. This notion of no reset – but rather a "reload" once they're cap compliant may make them nervous because they have been given a similar pitch every season since Drew Brees retired.
Regardless, the Saints seemingly don't want to push all their chips into the idea of Spencer Rattler working out, or another rookie in the room at quarterback.
Instead, New Orleans may just bring back the veteran QB and see if Moore can improve the offense around him enough to find success. If he can't, it'll be an even bigger uphill climb back into contention in the future.
