The New England Patriots need a wide receiver to help Drake Maye, and a very talented one just became available.

On Tuesday, the New York Jets released Davante Adams, making him an unrestricted free agent ahead of the new league year that begins next week.

The Patriots have the money to make it happen with a league-leading $127.7 million in available cap money. But, that's not the only thing that could draw Adams to New England.

It's clear that if he signs with the Patriots, he will be the top wide receiver once again. And he'd have an opportunity to get revenge on the Jets, facing New York twice a year.

But, the biggest reason is a reunion with former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, who is the new Patriots offensive coordinator for the 2025 season.

Adams was traded to the Raiders in 2022 after the Green Bay Packers placed the franchise tag on Davante Adams, but he informed them that he would not play under the tag for the season. Instead, he went on to have a lot of success with the Raiders over the next two seasons, finishing the 2022 season with 100 receptions for 1,526 yards and 14 touchdowns. In 2023, he recorded 103 receptions for 1,144 yards and 8 touchdowns.

McDaniels was fired from the Raiders during the 2023 season.

But, they could reunite once again in New England.
