Backs are indeed against the wall in Columbus, Ohio.
After losing three straight games, the Ohio State men’s basketball team is going to need to find a run quickly if they want to make the NCAA Tournament.
Ohio State’s worst loss of the season came last week following the losing streak beginning against Michigan. The Buckeyes were then beaten 70-49 by Northwestern and 69-61 by UCLA. At 15-13, the Buckeyes need a run quick or they won’t be playing meaningful basketball in March.
“We control our own destiny. That's really the reality to it,” Diebler said after the UCLA loss, via Eleven Warriors. “We're not in a position where we have no chance to get to where we want to go. We just got to take it one day at a time and live in the moment. That's been the message, live in the moment because when we're healthy, we'll go on a run.”
That is a lot of confidence from Diebler in his team by saying they will go on a run. The Buckeyes have three regular-season games remaining and they’ll need at least three wins to get into the NCAA Tournament. Success in the Big Ten Tournament would help the Buckeyes as well, but that won’t be easy at 11th in the Big Ten.
Ohio State C Aaron Bradshaw has missed the last two games and 10 on the season. Without Bradshaw, Ohio State’s length is tested and has been a weakness for them. The Buckeyes have been without Meechie Johnson all season too for personal reasons and he isn’t likely to be back.
Sickness is another issue the Buckeyes have faced. John Mobley Jr. played against UCLA with the flu and was held to 3-of-10 shooting. Having everyone healthy is what the Buckeyes need, then they’ll find success Diebler believes.
The young head coach has a ton of confidence in the Buckeyes. Ohio State plays USC at 10:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, then they’ll finish the regular season against Nebraska and Indiana.
Ohio State’s big offseason swings blew up in their face, and it’s playing a role in the season slipping away
The additions didn’t pan out.
