Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders have nothing to be ashamed of, even when considering the final score of Sunday's NFC Championship matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
2024 was a season that saw so many highs and nowhere near as many lows, yet the last game of the year still stings and Daniels described said feeling in words that just about every Commanders fan can relate to after a 32-point drubbing.
"Obviously, man, it sucks. Man, it's just sucks," Daniels told reporters after the game. "Excuse my language, but I couldn't be prouder of the guys in locker room. You know, Year 1, everybody not really knowing each other. Rookies – the vets, [they all] did a tremendous job of, you know, bringing us in and helping us out, and we all just meshed.
"And, you know, we got to this point, but at the end of the day, man, you know, we lost it. It sucks, but we'll move on from this."
Daniels' final words are easily the most important of his entire statement. I mean, it's honestly really easy to move on from this loss, no matter how bad it was.
Because let's be real: Less than one percent of anyone that follows NFL football in a respectable fashion had the Commanders still alive at this point in the season. If you just so happened to predict this, then the utmost congratulations on my end. Go buy as many lottery tickets as your heart deems reasonable.
Either way, Daniels doesn't let his personal feelings get in the way of the process, but he made it even more clear that the worse loss of his life is something he doesn't want to experience again. And that's completely reasonable and I'm sure a lot of Commanders fans resonate with such.
"I don't want to have a feeling like this again, but you know, you got to deal with it. You know, move on from it. I couldn't even tell you right now… [but] we know the standard," said Daniels.
It's not just Daniels, though. The standard that Dan Quinn has set and the culture he's already built in Year 1 will carry over into the coming years and it should only make the team stronger – and Daniels knows this, too, as well as Commanders fans.
"The culture DQ and Adam set here – we know the standard and the locker room next year [will have it]. We're obviously going to have new guys come in and stuff like that. So, you know, we have to teach them the standard and uphold them to it."
The present may not be what Commanders fans want, but the future is very bright with Daniels at quarterback.
