The Oklahoma Sooners had one of the best defenses in the country last year. However, because of how bad the offense was, how many bad situations they were put in, and a whole lot of other things out of their control, the unit oftentimes looked like an average one.
With how bad the year went as a whole, though, we knew that even players on the offensive side of the ball would want to get out of town if they saw a better opportunity present itself. And, that has already happened.
Oklahoma Sooners LB Phil Picciotti enters portal
According to On3, the Sooners are now losing a promising young linebacker, but a guy who's struggled with injuries a lot. Oklahoma linebacker Phil Picciotti is entering the transfer portal and could be a player that teams really want.
Phil Picciotti was a coveted recruit who chose Oklahoma on July 4, 2022, rejecting offers from Auburn, Michigan, Nebraska, and more. His talent was recognized by various recruiting platforms, earning him ratings as a three or four-star prospect, with rankings at No. 12 inside linebacker by Rivals, No. 19 by ESPN, and No. 83 by On3.
His commitment was a big win for OU's 2023 recruiting class. He joined the team in January 2023 but was slated to redshirt his freshman year due to an injury. Sadly, another injury in 2024 prevented him from playing at all during his time with the Sooners in Norman.
The Sooners will miss him.
