There is a job up for grabs in North Carolina after the UNC Tar Heels let go of Mack Brown earlier this week.
In fact Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann has been linked to the power four head coaching position, thanks to Pete Thamel and several other media outlets calling him a name to watch.
Schumann has been at Georgia since Kirby Smart took over the Dawgs back in 2016. But the two go back even further than that.
Losing Schumann would not be ideal, but Smart isn't naive to the fact that it's bound to happen one day considering the job he has put into the Georgia program defensively.
“Glenn’s always been wise, innovative, great teacher,” Smart on Tuesday amid the coaching rumors. “Both his parents were educators, and teachers, and coaches. And you can see he enjoys being in front of the group, in front of the room, and teaching different ways, thinking outside the box. And he works extremely hard. So he’s dedicated and spends a lot of time on his craft, whether it’s scheme, or fundamentals, or relationships. He was good when he started, but he’s just more experienced now.”
This also wouldn't be the first time the Bulldogs were on the verge of losing Schumann as he interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles for their vacant defensive coordinator job last year.
Georgia still has one more home game against Georiga Tech, along with the SEC championship and a playoff run, before they have to possibly even think about saving goodbye to Schumann.
