The Oklahoma Sooners have always recruited well when it comes to football. Even after a down year like 2024, one of their worst years in 25 seasons, they have still managed to land a top-12 recruiting class for 2025, and that's after the guys who have flipped and committed elsewhere.
The Sooners have historically recruited everywhere very well. But, in the past, they recruited Oklahoma pretty well. And, sure, let's go ahead and admit that Oklahoma high school football isn't Texas high school football, but it's still a pretty big deal, and there's a ton of talent everywhere in the state. Before Brent Venables was head coach, it felt like the Sooners were getting away from recruiting in Oklahoma, a bit at least.
Now, they are pretty much back at it. The Sooners have six committs from Oklahoma in this 2025 class, and three of them are from the same school, in Carl Albert in the Oklahoma City area.
“I don’t think anyone in Oklahoma, any high school coaches, would deny that this new staff has definitely made a point of getting back into Oklahoma high schools,” Carl Albert head coach Mike Dunn told The Oklahoman.
Tight end Trynae Washington, linebacker Marcus James, and cornerback Trystan Haynes are the three recruits from Carl Albert, one of the best high school football programs in the OKC area. This is something that the fan base loves, because these are usually kids who grow up wanting to play for the Sooners.
The Sooners are certainly getting back into Oklahoma high schools.
