Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops thinks we'll see a huge college football upset this weekend.
On Thursday, Stoops made his predictions for Week 9 of the 2024 college football season (via his YouTube channel) and he picked the Vanderbilt Commodores to upset the Texas Longhorns in Nashville on Saturday afternoon.
Texas is ranked No. 5 in the current AP Top 25 poll while Vanderbilt is ranked No. 25.
"I'm going to go with Vandy for the upset, what the heck, I'm allowed to do that, right, against Texas," said Stoops.
"And again, I think Vandy has something to prove," continued Stoops. "And they got a team that they're doing it with. Maybe Texas will still be licking their wounds a little bit (after losing to Georgia last week). So I'm going with Vandy."
It's not a surprise that Stoops is picking Texas to lose. After all, Stoops is a Sooner through and through. But it's still a bold prediction from the former Oklahoma head coach.
Vanderbilt, however, has already upset Alabama in Nashville this season, so this certainly isn't a game that the Longhorns can overlook (and with Texas coming off a loss, I seriously doubt they'll overlook the Commodores).
Maybe Stoops will be right, but I'm having a hard time believing that will be the case. Vanderbilt has played extremely well this season, but I'm sure the Longhorns will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Georgia last weekend.
