Cooper was asked about rookie Keon Coleman and the rest of the receiver group, and he had plenty to say.
"That was the impressive thing about today. I know a lot of guys stepped up and made plays at the wide receiver position, you know, congratulations to the young buck Keon for his first 100-yard game, he really put together a string of plays out there," Cooper said. "And I still believe that the play that was called, that was a touchdown. It looks like he got like three feet in, and he definitely had control of the ball. But it was a lot of impressive plays made out there by the receiver group."
Two weeks ago, I wrote about how the Bills would benefit from developing Coleman similarly to how the Seahawks developed DK Metcalf. Both of them are size/speed combo guys with great strength, who entered the league with perceived knocks on their route running abilities. Metcalf is now one of the top receivers in the league because the Seahawks brought him along the right way. Coleman has every opportunity to do the same.
Cooper demonstrated multiple times throughout his media availability that he has great understanding of what's going on around him. Knowing that it was Coleman's first first career 100-yard receiving game for a teammate that's been here just long enough to have a cup of coffee, while also commenting on the fact that it was Josh Allen's 100th career game, shows a great level of respect and understanding from the veteran wide receiver.
Coleman did have a great game. His 125 receiving yards was a career high, was the only 100+ receiving yard performance by a Bills receiver this season, and was the most by a Bills' receiver since Gabe Davis had 130 against the Chargers in Week 16 of last season.
Cooper's presence is going to do wonders for this offense, and Cooper, who lines up primarily as an X receiver, is a great mentor that can help Coleman's development throughout his rookie season. Hopefully the Bills are able to sign Cooper to an extension going forward, because his demeanor, professionalism, and talent are exactly what an organization should want.
