At last, the Pittsburgh Steelers have landed on who will call the offensive plays going forward for the team.
According to multiple reports, the Steelers are set to hire Arthur Smith to be their next offensive coordinator. Smith comes over after serving as the head coach in Atlanta with the Falcons from 2021-2023. The Falcons parted ways with Smith after a 7-10 finish this past season.
Smith coached a top running game led by Derrick Henry when he was with the Tennessee Titans before taking the Falcons job. That is an enticing part of the hire that the Steelers hope can be replicated. Pittsburgh has a talented backfield with Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren that creates a bulk of their offense.
Back in November, the Steelers made a move to let go of Matt Canada and let Eddie Faulkner take over the play-calling duties as the interim. Now, the hope for the Steelers is that they have their guy.
The quarterback position is cloudy since Kenny Pickett has yet to show that he is the long-term guy, but there are pieces to work with for the Steelers to build a pretty good offense. Now, it’s up to Smith to bounce back from his last firing and do just that with the Steelers.
