Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson suffered an apparent serious injury when tackled by Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu. This injury followed a hip-drop tackle, which has become the center of controversy this season. There has been an uptick in the discussion surrounding the legality of the hip-drop tackle, especially after it caused more prominent injuries this season.
Stevenson had a breakout season in 2022, rushing for 1,040 yards and five touchdowns. Many anticipated him building on that success and ascending to the upper echelon of running backs, but that hasn't materialized. In fact, his per-game stats have regressed. While he averaged 61 rushing yards per game in 2022, he's currently down to 52 yards per game. It's worth noting that the offense has been nothing short of a disaster, lacking any semblance of a passing game, and the offensive line has been among the league's worst.
S=Following the injury, Stevenson was swiftly brought from the blue tent to the locker room, requiring the assistance of trainers to move. He was downgraded from questionable to out at half-time.
The Patriots' backup running back is Ezekiel Elliott, who has been dealing with an injury of his own, listed as limited in practice throughout the week due to a thigh injury.
