One thing we know about the Pittsburgh Steelers when it comes to fhe NFL Draft is there infatuation with elite athletes.
And with a need in the secondary, it's a matter of when, not if Pittsburgh addresses corner/safety in the draft.
Well, as reported by Mike DeFabo of The Athletic, Pittsburgh is set to meet with a player who fits the Job description:
Steelers interested in DeJean?
Cooper DeJean is a polarizing player in this class due to his position. When speaking with league sources and media members, there is an array of responses on what position he should play in the league.
Those who say safety-nickel think he lacks the fluidity to play as an every down corner in the NFL, citing tighter hips as a potential pitfall for perimeter man coverage.
Some oppose that viewpoint however, referencing game tape that shows an elite athlete who seldom struggled in coverage.
And if you're in the camp that DeJean can play corner, his recent Pro-Day only justifies your stance even more:
So for Pittsburgh, I have no issue with them taking him at 20th overall and placing DeJean opposite of Joey Porter Jr., forming a CB duo for years to come. I personally think DeJean is more than capable of playing any position in the secondary, as he's not only athletic but boasts a brawny frame at nearly 6-1 and over 200 pounds.
But to be clear, unless Pittsburgh is considering trading back to a pick that's late in the first or early in the second round, they will have to take DeJean at 20, and that's if he's even on the board by then.
DeJean will be long gone by the time Pittsburgh picks again at 51.
And while I still think Pittsburgh opts to go offensive line in round one, you never know how things will fall, leaving DeJean as an enticing option.
