Kryptonite to the Baltimore Ravens’ 2024 NFL season may already be obvious to everyone
The Baltimore Ravens have a loaded offense mainly because of the scheme, offensive line (in the past at least), star tight end, and who they have playing quarterback. Baltimore has one glaring weak spot on the team in 2024 and could end up holding them back when it is all said and done.
The wide receiver unit is somewhere that Baltimore hasn’t necessarily built up the best around Jackson since they drafted him. In fact, Pro Football Focus has even ranked the Ravens’ wide receiver unit as the No. 23 group in the NFL, which is mediocre at best.
“Tight end Mark Andrews‘ injury in 2023 significantly lowered the ceiling of the Ravens' receiving group. Andrews, who comes in at No. 3 in PFF’s tight end rankings ahead of the 2024 season, is joined in the tight end room by a good running mate in Isaiah Likely.
Zay Flowers earned a 75.6 PFF overall grade as a rookie and should continue to be a big player, but Baltimore will need more from Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor to ascend this list.” – Trevor Sikkema, PFF
Drafting Zay Flowers was a win for the Ravens and he showed promise as a rookie with 858 receiving yards. In 2024, he will enter the season as the clear-cut favorite to be the top wideout option. Overall, the offense is still going to flow through Mark Andrews a ton, and getting him back healthy in 2024 is huge for the Ravens.
Gone is Odell Beckham Jr. and that could be a good thing. But after Flowers in the wideout room, Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor are penciled in next. Bateman is entering his fourth season in the NFL and took a step back last year with 367 yards in 16 games. Still, the Ravens believe in him and that’s why they brought him back.
Agholor is who he always has been and he’s a nice speed guy that can add depth to the room. He’s going to give you a few hundred yards a season, but he is no star. The wildcard in the room is Devontez Walker, who the Ravens selected in the middle of the recent NFL Draft. Walker has all of the skills to be a quality player in this league, it is all about catching up to the NFL level. He was a standout in OTAs.
Baltimore will have guys like Tylan Wallace and Deonte Harty in the back of the wide receiver room. As you see, a common theme in the group for Baltimore is there is no true proven alpha. Sure, Flowers showed he has great promise but that was only his rookie season and things can change quickly in this league.
2024 should be another successful season for Baltimore, but they are not perfect heading into the season and they have given some reasons to ask questions.
