‘He is going to be a superstar’ – Michigan true freshman is making a statement to the Wolverine program early, but it isn’t the one you would think
A Michigan true freshman is already turning heads in Ann Arbor.
When you think about the Michigan 2025 recruiting class, freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood is going to get the majority of the hype. That hype is very warranted for Underwood. The 6-4, 214-pound passer is an outstanding talent, and has a legitimate argument as one of the very best quarterbacks to come out in several years.
Underwood wasn’t, however, the only five-star player that the Wolverines signed in that class. Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley Northwest offensive tackle Andrew Babalola was a massive grab for Michigan, who had to battle against a long list of impressive suitors. The 6-6, 315-pound behemoth is already turning heads since he made it to Ann Arbor. The talent is immense, and people are taking a lot of notice.
That includes Babaloa’s offensive line teammate Gio El-Hadi. The redshirt senior is projected to be the anchor for the Wolverine offense at center, but he is still taking notice of the freshman. El-Hadi had some high praise for Babaloa, who appears to be the future of the left tackle position for Michigan.
As El-Hadi said, most people would agree that “(Babs) is going to be a superstar. As of today, Evan Link is projected to be the starter at left tackle, but Babalola is pushing him. It is uncertain if the Kansas native can make a strong push as a freshman, but the early compliment certainly indicates that people are taking notice. If Babalola begins to round out technically, and continues to get stronger, his athletic gifts have a chance to shine.
Babaloa ended up ranked as a five-star player on the 247 Sports Composite ranking. That ranking had him pegged as the No. 16 overall player, No. 3 offensive tackle, and No. 1 player in the state of Kansas.
It was a long and healthy offer list for Babaloa. Michigan managed to win out over the likes of Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, USC, Penn State, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Nebraska, Michigan State, Utah, Washington, Vanderbilt, WIsconsin, Minnesota, NC State, Illinois, Kansas State, Iowa, Iowa State, Colorado, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Cincinnati, Duke, Northwestern, and Stanford among others.
While Underwood might be the future of the Michigan program, Babaloa will be responsible for keeping him up right. The offensive line is also a quarterback’s best friend, and you can bet that Babaloa and him and getting to know each other quickly.
