The biggest game of the week has to be the Oklahoma Sooners hosting the Michigan Wolverines, two teams that have some of the best histories in college football. And, two teams that really need this win for their program. But, for the Wolverines, they’re at an extreme disadvantage when it comes to one of their best players, Jaishawn Barham.

Barham is an elite linebacker, but a linebacker who will be missing the first half of the game on Saturday because of the targeting call he got last week. He’s good, very good, but his teammates are talking for him, giving the Sooners bulletin board material already.

“F*** s*** up, for real,” Michigan edge T.J. Guy said when asked what Barham is going to do to Michigan when he plays in the second half.

Not having him for the first half is going to really, really suck for Michigan. And now, the Sooners have some bulletin board material to work with.

Sooners need to take advantage of Barham’s absence in first half

Barham only played 28 total snaps against New Mexico last week, but he still finished with a Pro Football Focus grade of 74.0 before being ejected. He is a very physical and violent linebacker that is one of the biggest keys to their run game, especially when the RB hits a gap and gets past the DTs up front.

The Sooners struggled to run the ball against Illinois State last week. They averaged 3.2 yards per carry, and that was against an FCS team. Now, granted, that was the first game of the season, so there could have been some rust there. And, they will have a few different guys on the offensive line against Michigan, so that could work in their favor. They will have to bring it on Saturday if they want a chance to win.

Now, they have a little bit more motivation to get that done. You already have everything that a player could ask for in two big-time programs, a ranked matchup, prime time game with ESPN College GameDay in town, and now you have the other team talking some trash, too. Man, Saturday is going to be too much fun to watch.
