Ryan Day isn’t hiding that he’s very against an NCAA rule change that would only hurt the Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State Buckeyes made multiple transfer portal additions this past offseason, but they didn’t go all in like the previous year when they landed stars such as Caleb Downs and Quinshon Judkins. Ohio State’s biggest addition in the winter portal was tight end Max Klare, while defensive end Beau Atkinson joined during the spring window.
The two-transfer-window system now looks to be a thing of the past, as the NCAA is moving toward a single portal window in early January. Given how wild and active the portal is, that week will be hectic across the college football landscape. However, it’s not an ideal setup for teams still playing in January, like the Buckeyes.
Ryan Day is not a fan of the new transfer portal window
“I don’t think it’s a good idea at all,” Day said earlier in the week. “In the conversations we had with Big Ten coaches, I think the majority of them agree. I just don’t quite understand how teams that are playing in the playoffs are expected to make decisions and sign their upcoming players while they’re still getting ready for games. It doesn’t make any sense to me.”
With the expanded College Football Playoff format, the postseason stretches from December into January. Ohio State defeated Notre Dame on Jan. 20 earlier this year in the national championship. Having to chase players in the portal while preparing for the most important games of the season isn’t fair to these programs and creates a flawed setup overall.
“I know the calendar is funky, but I also know that the Big Ten and Tony Petitti have been working hard, because he doesn’t believe in it either. The coaches in the Big Ten had a lot of long discussions about the windows and tried to work through different options, but I don’t agree with it being in January.”

The Ohio State Buckeyes spent heavily to assemble last year’s national championship team, with most of that money going toward retaining their own players. In today’s era of college football and NIL, the pay-for-play model means you either pay your players or risk losing them to someone else. Landing a top recruiting class also requires […]
