Things didn’t end up how Tennessee Vols fans wanted on Saturday evening inside Neyland Stadium. The Vols got close to closing things out against Georgia for the first time in 9 years, but they couldn’t finish the job, falling 44-41 in overtime despite having two golden opportunities to claim victory.

But all is not lost for Tennessee. They proved that they are indeed a College Football Playoff caliber team. Joey Aguilar showed he’s potentially one of the best quarterbacks in the country, and it’s hard to say at this point it wasn’t a steal for UT to land Agular in place of Nico Iamaleava.

But another standout on Saturday was WR Chris Brazzell II. The Vols’ leading receiver had a monster game, pulling down 6 passes for 177 yards and 3 touchdowns. That performance caught the attention of veteran NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay, who had high praises for Tennessee’s top pass catcher.

Todd McShay says Tennessee WR Chris Brazzell II is in contention to be the top wide receiver taken in the 2026 NFL Draft

“I dove into his tape today. There’s a lot there. You see that wide receiver one question mark? I’m going to make an early prediction. This guy is going to be in the mix come April for the first receiver off the board. Did you see that in and out of his break? Talking about 6’3″, 6’4″, just fluid hips and the acrobatic catch. The other thing is – this guy can fly. Watch him get on top of this Georgia defensive back. And then coming back to the football. Adjust, make the play on the ball, and then that balance after the catch. I don’t know, man. A lot of good receivers in the 2026 class. None I’ve seen so far that have this guy’s talent.”

Brazzell II has been one of the brightest spots on Tennessee’s roster in this early 2025 season. After a 2024 season with a few moments – the game winning catch against Alabama – but a lot of stretches of disappearances along the way, 2025 looks like it has the makings of a tremendous year for CBII. And there’s little doubt that Aguilar’s rocket arm and good touch has had a lot to do with it.

We’ll see if Brazzell II ends up walking up to the stage in April after his name is called to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell during the draft. If so, it likely means it was a very good season for the Tennessee Vols as well.
