Tennessee didn’t play a game this past weekend and the Vols still made a big move in ESPN’s college football power rankings
The Tennessee Volunteers will be back in action this weekend when they host the Kentucky Wildcats in a big SEC showdown.
The Tennessee Vols were off this past weekend, but that didn’t stop them from making a big move in ESPN’s latest college football power rankings.
Tennessee entered last weekend ranked No. 20 in ESPN’s power rankings. The Vols moved up to No. 16 this week.
“The Vols suffered the big-win hangover so many top teams in college football have experienced this season when it went on the road and lost to South Carolina a week after beating Alabama at home,” wrote ESPN’s Alex Scarborough. “But the weekend bye presented an opportunity to regroup and get healthy. One wonders if coach Josh Heupel is considering a quarterback change again.
“George MacIntyre replaced an injured Faizon Brandon as the starter and seemed to take the job in hand when he led the team to a win over Alabama. But the South Carolina loss, in which he threw for only 136 yards and no touchdowns, was a step in the wrong direction. Though MacIntyre might operate the offense more efficiently than Brandon, Heupel might need to lean on Brandon’s playmaking ability with his legs against Kentucky on Saturday.”
Tennessee passed Houston, Boise State, Northwestern, and Florida in ESPN’s power rankings this week.
The Vols will return to action on Saturday night when they host Kentucky in a huge SEC showdown.
