College football analyst lists Florida State QB Tommy Castellanos in his top 10 rankings, but the Noles’ signal caller has room to move up substantially
FSU’s signal caller is starting to turn heads.
The acquisition of former Boston College quarterback Tommy Castellanos in the transfer portal after the 2024 season didn’t receive a huge amount of attention nationally among the talking heads. However, that script has flipped sharply on its head in a matter of weeks.
Entering the Week 4, Castellanos and the Seminoles are now one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 college football season after a 3-0 start that includes a convincing and highly-viewed 31-17 win over Alabama.
And Castellanos finds himself among the top 10 QB lists of some in the media, including FOX Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt.
Joel Klatt ranks FSU QB Tommy Castellanos sixth in his top 10 quarterback rankings
“His numbers are not going to blow you out of the water, and more specifically because they’ve only played two games, but they’ve beat Alabama, they’ve played kind of a nobody,” Klatt said on his show this week. “But man, that performance against Alabama – and it’s not what he did on the stat sheet, it’s everything else that he did. Providing the energy, short area quickness, his ability to be a threat in the running game, his ability to throw the football down the field. It clearly changed them, and what we’ve seen from Alabama now, how much more highly do we think of Florida State? Because Alabama has turned it around in a lot of ways.
“Castellanos has clearly earned his way onto this list.”
Klatt is right about Crimson Tide and Florida State as far as appearances, as the Crimson Tide have turned things around and looked the part of a potential playoff contender after their Week 1 stumble in Tallahassee. And that does put into perspective just how impressive the performance was by Castellanos and the rest of his teammates on both sides of the ball.
But for Castellanos he has a chance to take another leap in the rankings, and soon. He will face off against Carson Beck and the Miami Hurricanes in two weeks in Tallahassee. Beck checked in at #2 on Klatt’s list. And a showdown on November 8 with Cade Klubnik and Clemson will provide another marquee quarterback battle on a national scale, particularly if both teams are in the College Football Playoff picture.
If the Seminoles win those games, it will be because of Castellanos’ leadership and play remaining at a high level. Some people cringed when Castellanos called out Alabama before the season. They’re likely not doubting the Seminoles anymore.
