Buckeye Nation won’t approve of where Kirk Herbstreit has Ohio State ranked heading into the Washington game
The former Buckeye has a couple teams ahead of Ohio State.
After their week off, the Ohio State Buckeyes will be back in action on Saturday for their first road test of the season. Ohio State starts Big Ten play away at Washington and it should be a great road environment for the Buckeyes to go into. For sophomore QB Julian Sayin, it will be the first road start of his college football career. The Buckeyes have looked impressive this year with a win over Texas and two blowout victories over Grambling State and Ohio. While Ohio State is No. 1 in the AP Poll and A to Z Top 25, one former Buckeye doesn’t think they’re the top team.
Kirk Herbstreit has a couple of teams ranked ahead of the Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State started the season as the No. 2-ranked team and they rightfully went to No. 1 when they beat Texas when they were the top-ranked team. Since then, Ohio State has looked like what a good team does against lesser competition. Still, Herbstreit has the LSU Tigers as the No. 1 team and the Penn State Nittany Lions are No. 2. The former Buckeye has Ohio State ranked No. 3 followed by the Miami Hurricanes and Georgia Bulldogs.
An interesting ranking that Buckeye Nation won’t agree with, that’s for sure. LSU does have wins over Clemson and Florida, but neither of those teams are a top-25 team. Ohio State has the better win and the same goes for Penn State being at No. 2. Penn State opened the season with three non-Power Four games and they’ll host Oregon on Saturday. Ohio State will play Oregon in November, so that ranking will work itself out.
Ohio State has the best scoring defense in college football, giving up just 5.3 points per game through its first three outings. Ohio State will need to continue finding out what their run game truly looks like, and that may be having freshman RB Bo Jackson being the lead guy. It’s hard to see a reason another team can be ranked ahead of the Buckeyes at this point. Ohio State’s road will begin to get tougher when they play at Washington on Saturday, and then they are back at home against Minnesota the following week.
