Florida Gators’ coaching search continues wild ride with latest report involving Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin
The Florida Gators coaching search drama continues.
The Florida Gators are still searching for their next head coach, and Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin remains the top target.
Over the last few days, the LSU Tigers have emerged as a serious threat to hire Kiffin as their next head coach. His family has reportedly visited Gainesville and Baton Rouge to expedite the process of making a selection. He is also expected to meet with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter on Friday, which could also do the same thing.
Florida met with Lane Kiffin’s representatives this week
The Gators aren’t slowing or backing down on their pursuit of Kiffin. 247 Sports’ Graham Hall reported that Florida athletic department officials met with representatives of Kiffin.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the Gators have met with Kiffin’s representatives, but it continues to show that there is serious interest on both sides. Publicly, Kiffin is still saying nothing.
“Like I said, I’ve been saying the same thing for six years; I’m not talking about speaking on other jobs. I’m focused on this one,” Kiffin said during Wednesday’s teleconference. “I guess that’s kind of spiraling off the question before, like ‘Are you coaching in the game?’ I don’t even understand what the question is. Of course I’m coaching, I mean, unless you guys know something I don’t or I’m getting fired and I don’t know it.”
The aforementioned meeting on Friday could determine everything about where Kiffin ends up coaching next season, and the hope in Gainesville is that it’s Florida.
