Notre Dame football has continued to recruit on an extremely high level under head coach Marcus Freeman. As the product on the field has gotten better, so have the efforts on the recruiting trail. One state that has continued to get more and more important to the Fighting Irish staff is North Carolina, which has provided the team players such as Bryce Young, Micah Gilbert, Jack Larsen, Rodney Dunham, and Ebenezer Ewetade, among others, in recent years.

In the 2027 recruiting class, there are several more players from North Carolina for Notre Dame fans to know. That includes elite Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons cornerback Xavier Hasan, who has been high on the Irish for some time now. Notre Dame took a massive step toward eventually landing Hasan down the road on Monday, having been included in his top six schools list.

The Irish were joined by Ohio State, Tennessee, Florida State, South Carolina, and UNC.

As of today, Notre Dame is the team to beat for the talented cover corner. This feels more like a matter of when he ends up with the class, not if. Hasan is a player that Notre Dame has valued highly from the beginning. He would arguably be the most talented cornerback recruit that secondary coach Mike Mickens has landed during his career, which is saying something.

Xavier Hasan’s recruiting background

Hasan is considered to be a Top-100 caliber recruit by multiple major recruiting platforms right now. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Hasan currently ranks as the No. 38 overall player, the No. 4 cornerback, and the No. 1 player from the state of North Carolina for the 2027 recruiting class. Those rankings are enough to get everyone excited.

The 6-0, 180-pound cornerback is not short of options to play on the college level currently, even outside of his finalists. His offer list is about as strong as you will find in the 2027 recruiting class overall. Some of the top programs that have offered Hasan include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, Penn State, Miami, Florida State, Nebraska, Auburn, Louisville, NC State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Michigan State, UNC, Indiana, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Virginia, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, UCLA, and SMU, among many others.

In 12 games as a junior, opposing offenses have done whatever they can to steer clear of Hasan. He recorded just 17 total tackles and three interceptions during the season. Hasan did also handle both kickoff and punt return duties for the team, having returned two for touchdowns on the year.

That’s fresh off a sophomore year where Hasan intercepted seven passes and broke up another eight, and it appears opponents have learned from their 2024 mistakes for the most part.
