Notre Dame football predicted to suffer difficult recruiting loss for a five-star player right in their own backyard
Notre Dame football is expecting some bad recruiting news on the horizon.
Since the very beginning of the 2027 recruiting class, Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence North five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales has been a player that Notre Dame has valued tremendously. Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish understand how important it is to keep top talent at home, especially at such a high position of need. Sales became a priority instantly.
While Notre Dame wasn’t considered the top school early for Sales, the Irish staff continued to push very hard. They were even able to find a place in the Top Schools list. The Fighting Irish were joined by Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Michigan, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Miami, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Indiana on that list.
With some positive vibes, Notre Dame was hoping to get the Indiana native back to campus again this offseason for a spring visit. Unfortunately for Freeman and the Irish, it appears that a tough recruiting loss could be on the horizon. Rivals national recruiting analyst Greg Smith logged an expert prediction for Sales to land with Alabama.
With Notre Dame being in a good position with other talented wide receivers such as Quentin Burrell and Julius Jones Jr., missing on Sales isn’t the end of the world. In the future, however, the Irish need to find a way to close on this type of talent from the home state. That is how this program takes the next level, while continuing to tap into top talent areas in the country.
Monshun Sales’ recruiting background
Sales was a good player as a sophomore for Lawrence North in 2024, but he has been a dominant force as a junior. In 10 games, he managed to haul in 37 receptions for 794 yards and nine touchdowns. That is a stellar average of 21.5 yards per reception, showcasing his uncommon ability to create big plays.
The 6-5, 200-pound pass catcher is considered a five-star player on multiple of the major recruiting platforms. 247 Sports is highest on Sales, rating him as the No. 5 overall player, the No. 1 wide receiver, and the No. 1 player from the state of Indiana for the 2027 recruiting class. The composite ranking has him pegged as the No. 9 overall player in the class as well.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that Sales has been offered by nearly 40 different programs so far. Outside of his finalists, some of the other programs that have offered the Indiana superstar include Oklahoma, Penn State, Florida, Auburn, Nebraska, Florida State, Louisville, Kentucky, Arkansas, Pittsburgh, Arizona State, Illinois, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Maryland, Michigan State, Colorado, Kansas, Syracuse, and Purdue, among several others.
