The Ohio State Buckeyes losing Brian Hartline was a big negative on recruiting going forward. Hartline has been Ohio State’s top recruiter the last several years, and the Buckeyes no longer have that.

Ohio State is off to a strong start in the class of 2027 with nine commitments so far. The Buckeyes have the No. 3 class in the country, according to 247sports. Even without Hartline in the picture, the Buckeyes are still in the mix for one of the best wide receivers in the country.

Ohio State is trying to keep its wide receiver factory going without Brian Hartline

The Buckeyes are one of four schools that remain in the mix for Lawrence North (IN) 2027 five-star WR Monshun Sales. Sales announced his final four schools on Wednesday, and the Buckeyes were in the mix along with Indiana, Alabama, and Miami.

According to 247sports Composite, Sales is the No. 2 wide receiver in the country and No. 9 player nationally. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound wideout was on campus in January at Ohio State, and the Buckeyes remain strongly in the mix with new wideouts coach Cortez Hankton leading the charge.

The closer proximity to Indiana has allowed Sales to be on campus multiple times during his recruitment. Alabama is seen as the frontrunner for Sales, but the Buckeyes are very much in the mix for the big wide receiver with game-breaking speed.

Ohio State already has No. 1 wideout Jamier Brown in the class and adding Sales would give Ohio State quite the tandem for the future. The Buckeyes went into Indiana in the class of 2025 and got a top wideout with Jerquaden Guilford on campus. Indiana wasn’t a threat for Guilford so much, but they’re in on Sales.

Getting an official visit from Sales will be key to the possibility of landing him. If the Buckeyes can do that, they’re in great shape to add another premier talent in the class of 2027.
