Florida Gators in line to land high-upside recruit that is oozing with potential
Don’t let Tyler Alexander’s star rating confuse you.
The Florida Gators have logged an expert prediction from Gators Online’s Blake Alderman to land a priority target in three-star defensive tackle Tyler Alexander out of Palm Beach Central High School in Florida.
Being able to land Alexander will be the second recruit for the Gators, with four-star cornerback Amare Nugent as the only commit currently. They are working hard to land multiple five-star recruits, including trending for offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.
Florida Gators receive expert prediction for three-star DT Tyler Alexander
Head coach Jon Sumrall‘s staff has been relentless with recruiting. It’s not a big deal that they only have one commit at this point, as they are building relationships as a new staff. One player they seem to really like is Alexander.
He is a 6-5, 300 pound defensive tackle out of Palm Beach Central High School in Wellington, Florida. The only recruiting service that currently has him ranked is Rivals, and they have him as a three-star and the 41st overall defensive tackle. He is also going to take his first visit to Gainesville on Mar. 7, with a return visit on April 11.
When you watch his tape, it’s a fascinating watch. He understands how to use his hands, popping them in the proper location to knock offensive linemen off their spot, and it’s clear he is stronger than his opponents. Alexander doesn’t play like he’s clearly stronger than his opponent, understanding the need to maximize his ability with technique.
While he isn’t quick off the ball in terms of explosiveness, Alexander is quick in terms of reaction time. He gets into his rush quickly, helping him take advantage of blockers immediately during the rep, and showcases plus ability to control gaps.
Alexander could use some work in generating more explosion in his forward movements, but there is a really nice profile to work with, especially as a 300-pound junior in high school without a lot of bad weight on his frame.
