Florida Gators land in top-3 for five-star recruit, and they have an uphill battle to secure his commitment
Jon Sumrall continues to have the Florida Gators in competition for five-star recruits. Can he seal the deal?
Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall is dominating when it comes to recruiting, and five-stars are taking notice.
Over the last week, Sumrall has been on fire, landing six commitments, with the best of the bunch being four-star offensive tackle Kennedee Jackson. It’s manily been thanks to the incredible staff Sumrall has hired, as they have a top-five class in the nation.
They also have the most blue-chip commitments in the nation, according to Rivals, and they are far from done.
Florida Gators 2027 Recruiting Class
- In Jon Sumrall’s first season, the Florida Gators have the No. 5 overall recruiting class with 22 commitments.
- Among their commitments, four of their top ones are on the offensive line, including five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.
- Sumrall is chasing multiple five-star recruits, including two at wide receiver.
Florida Gators make top-3 for five-star WR Eric McFarland
One of the top targets for the Florida Gators is five-star wide receiver Eric McFarland out of IMG Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada. He narrowed his schools down to three, and the Gators are on there, along with the Texas A&M Aggies and Georgia Bulldogs.
The five-star receiver is the No. 26 overall recruit and No. 6 wide receiver overall per the Rivals Industry Ranking. He just finished a visit to Gainesville, where his former 7-on-7 teammates, wide receiver Vernell Brown III and quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., were working hard to get him to Gainesville.
Things are really interesting with his recruitment. His last official visit was on June 4th weekend and doesn’t currently have any other visits scheduled. Even with that in mind, the Aggies are firmly in the lead with an 89.1% on the Rivals’ Recruiting Prediction Machine, and have widely been viewed as the team to beat for McFarland.
The Gators already have three wide receivers committed in the 2027 recruiting class in four-star Tramond Collins, four-star Anthony Jennings, and four-star Elias Pearl. Sumrall is focusing on both McFarland and five-star Easton Royal. Being able to keep them both from heading to the state of Texas would be a huge win.
June 28th will come quickly, and it’s worth monitoring if McFarland ends up taking another visit. If not, the Gators getting his last one could end up tipping the scales.
