Notre Dame football and head coach Marcus Freeman just put together another outstanding official visitor weekend for the 2027 recruiting class. While there were 18 2027 recruits on campus, there were only three uncommitted targets in South Bend. Perhaps the most interesting target that made the trip was Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee defensive lineman Segun Alexander, who reclassified from the 2028 class this offseason.

Heading into the visit, it felt like Texas A&M held the lead for Alexander. Things changed a ton this weekend. In my initial intel piece that was posted early Monday morning, here is what I wrote about Alexander and Notre Dame’s push for him.

DL Segun Alexander – Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee

Heading into this official visit, Texas A&M felt like the clear team to beat for Alexander. That has completely changed after he left South Bend. Notre Dame was a clear team of interest for Alexander, but now they are the clear frontrunner. Things have been moving fast for the Georgia native, who reclassified from the 2028 class this offseason. Charlie Partridge has done an incredible job selling the fit to him as a versatile defensive lineman who can move all over the field.

With the Irish already holding commitments from 5-star EDGE Abraham Sesaytop-100 defensive end Aidan O’Neilelite defensive tackle David Folorunsho, and toolsy pass rusher Jackson Vaughn, Alexander would be an intriguing addition with tons of upside, despite his bizarre recruiting rankings. Notre Dame is also still recruiting defensive tackles Brayden Parks and Tyler Alexander, so the finish for this elite defensive line group will be interesting.

Rivals’ national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong verified my feelings on where things stand coming out of this weekend. He has logged an expert prediction for Alexander to land with the Fighting Irish.

While Notre Dame continues to push for both Brayden Parks and Tyler Alexander, the Irish staff would take a commitment from Alexander after this weekend. The trip verified that the fit makes sense. If he decides to commit anytime in the near future, I think Notre Dame will be hard to beat.

Segun Alexander’s recruiting background

Alexander was considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms for the 2028 recruiting class, but that has changed since reclassifying. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Alexander currently sits as a three-star, the No. 515 overall player, the No. 63 defensive lineman, and the No. 63 player from the state of Georgia for the 2027 recruiting class. Those rankings will rise exponentially after a big senior season from Alexander.

If those rankings don’t impress you, and they probably don’t for now, Alexander’s offer list certainly will. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Miami, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Cal, Michigan State, West Virginia, UNC, Kansas, and Syracuse, among several others.

The 6-4, 275-pound defensive lineman put together a tremendous season in 2025. In 12 games, Alexander managed to collect 36 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks. Alexander also had 19 more quarterback hurries, one forced fumble, and another fumble recovery. His upside as a playmaking interior presence is extremely high on the college level.
