Sooners HC Brent Venables delivered great news regarding an injured player the entire fan base is waiting to see
The Oklahoma Sooners are ready to see what their offense looks like with wide receiver Trell Harris in the mix.
The Oklahoma Sooners have a much better roster on paper on the offensive side of the ball this season than last. But being better on paper doesn’t matter if they don’t show it on the field.
One position group is catching everyone’s eye more than the others. Everyone seems to want to know what the WR room is going to look like. Everyone wants to know what the two big transfer portal additions are going to look like. And that rings especially true for Trell Harris, who’s been injured.
“He’s really close… He ran routes full speed last week,” Brent Venables said at SEC Media Days on Monday.
Oklahoma Sooners’ wide receiver room is much better than it was last season
The Sooners had a decent wide receiver room last season on paper. But, with the offense being as bad as it was, the room didn’t end up looking great. Of course, Sategna and Deion Burks were supposed to be the headliners. Scratch that, JaVonnie Gibson and Burks were set to be the two stars in the room. Sategna emerged out of nowhere, and then Burks had a year that was as confusing as it gets. Gibson dealt with injuries and never looked quite ready to burst onto the scene.
But this room, with Harris, Sategna, and Parker Livingstone, looks legit. It looks like they could be the best trio of receivers in the SEC. Maybe that’s a stretch, but the vibes are good right now regarding the wide outs.
“Obviously, everything kind of starts with Sategna in that room, and you combine Trell and Sategna and Parker; that makes the receiver room one of the most experienced receiver rooms in the country, believe it or not,” Venables said.
Sategna finished 2025 with 67 catches, 965 receiving yards, and eight receiving touchdowns, averaging 14.4 yards per catch. The jump from his 2024 season at Arkansas, where he had 491 receiving yards, to nearly 1,000 yards in his first year with the Sooners was massive.
Now the question becomes whether he can take an even bigger leap in 2026. Harris finished with 847 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns, as he’s set to enter his last season. Livingstone, in just his second year at Texas, put up 500 receiving yards and six touchdowns. This group is kind of loaded, and they’re ready to show it.
