Lane Kiffin made a great point about the LSU vs Ole Miss game, but not one person is actually going to listen to him
Lane Kiffin will return to Oxford this weekend when LSU takes on Ole Miss in an important early-season SEC showdown.
Arguably the most anticipated game of the season will take place this weekend when LSU visits Oxford for a big early season SEC showdown against Ole Miss.
The big story surrounding the game is obviously LSU head coach Lane Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss just nine months after leaving Oxford for Baton Rouge.
Kiffin, however, correctly pointed out on Monday that this game is more about the players on the field than the coaches on the sidelines.
“I know obviously a lot’s going to be made about me,” said Kiffin. “But this is about the players being prepared really well and playing really well. Pete (Golding) is not going to tackle anybody. I’m not going to throw any touchdowns.
“This is about our guys. This is the first SEC game. Both teams are 2-0, and we’ve got to prepare really well. And it won’t be about all the other stuff and all the noise and everything. It’ll be about how well did we practice? How well did we prepare? How well do we play on game day?”
Kiffin is absolutely right. This game will be decided by the players on the field. And this is ultimately their game.
But we all know the players won’t be the main storyline on Saturday. It’ll be all about Kiffin and Ole Miss. You’ll hear way more about that this week than LSU’s players.
And that’s really a shame. This game means nothing without the players. And the players on the field, regardless of how they got to LSU or Ole Miss, are what this game should be about more than anything else. They’re the stars of the show — not Lane Kiffin or Pete Golding.
