Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers’ week takes another turn as Klint Kubiak provides an update on his practice status
The Las Vegas Raiders could really use tight end Brock Bowers this week against the Los Angeles Chargers, but he didn’t practice on Wednesday.
The Las Vegas Raiders won their Week 1 game against the Miami Dolphins pretty handily. And they did it without tight end Brock Bowers. In Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers, they may need Bowers badly.
Sure, the Chargers just lost to the Arizona Cardinals. However, this is an AFC West divisional game. Anything can happen in these games. They may have to rely on Michael Mayer again. It’s still unclear whether he’ll play. But Wednesday’s practice brings bad news.
Before practice, head coach Klint Kubiak told everyone Bowers will not be participating. Cornerback Darien Porter, injured in the Week 1 game, also isn’t practicing. And this isn’t great news for the Raiders. If he were limited in practice, you’d feel a lot better about him getting closer to being a full go on Sunday.
Initial reports claim that Brock Bowers may be available for Week 2
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bowers could be back in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers. After undergoing a meniscus trim last Tuesday, the Raiders believe there’s a realistic chance Brock Bowers will miss only one game and return for Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers, per sources.
The team will see how he’s feeling this week, but a return is possible. And that’s great, because this whole situation has been odd, to say the least. Some fans are getting extremely worried, believing Bowers may have a bigger issue.
The Raiders were fine without Bowers. However, they couldn’t really get in much 12 personnel, which is two tight ends and one running back. In fact, over 60 percent of their Week 1 plays were in 21 personnel. That’s two running backs and one tight end.
Those plays happened anytime both RBs were in the game, and anytime Ashton Jeanty was in the game with a fullback. They took advantage of that in Week 1. So, we could see the way the offense is called change massively.
