LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin needs to make some better decisions going forward.
Lane Kiffin made a mistake this week, and LSU fans may want to be worried about what it means.
Kiffin seems to be hung up on the Tigers’ loss to Ole Miss. So much so that he referred to the Ole Miss-LSU game as the Rebels’ Super Bowl this week.
“If it wasn’t for the name Ole Miss, and if it was more of a traditional game that we were playing and we hadn’t coached at before, how would everybody be feeling if in your third game of your first year of a program you went to Ohio State and came all the way back?” said Kiffin. [Our quarterback] didn’t play very well, and theirs played lights out. I’m sure after three games, he would be named the Heisman winner.
“I think when you look at it that way and say, OK, it’s their Super Bowl, then all the stuff around it, all the energy in the stadium, everything, and we’re right there at the end with multiple chances to win the game. We’ve got to learn from that and finish when we’re in that type of situation again.”
I mean, what are you doing, Lane?
I know Kiffin likes to talk and keep the attention on himself, but this just reeks of sore loser vibes. It’s not a good look. .
Anytime the coach on the losing side throws out the term “Super Bowl” while referring to the team that won, he’s lost twice. What point is Kiffin even trying to make? Was Ole Miss not supposed to get up for the game? Was the crowd not supposed to be into it?
Kiffin just has to take the loss and move on. It’s going to happen in this era of college football. There’s too much parity in the sport. Nobody is going to run the table that often anymore, especially in the SEC. Losses like this are part of the deal now.
Kiffin made himself look silly with this one, and he needs to rein it in. His first month of the regular season at LSU has been rocky. He’s brought more negative attention than positive attention, and he doesn’t need to do any of that at LSU. All he needs to do is coach football – the publicity part will take care of itself.
