‘Go talk to Sully’—Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley pulls no punches in his message during a tough start to the season

The Miami Dolphins have had a few close calls. But no breakthrough in the win column just yet. And head coach Jeff Hafley pulled no punches in his message to the team as this season moves ahead.

The Miami Dolphins just need to keep on plugging away. Progress is evident in bits and pieces of their effort each week — even if it hasn’t offered the ultimate payoff. Head coach Jeff Hafley was asked on Monday if he’s worried about his team staying without that big victory to justify their efforts. And he pulled no punches in his response — which he said he shared with the team, too.

It doesn’t leave much to the imagination.

“I told the guys very clearly that this was going to be a tough journey that we’re all going to go on. And I told them that if they weren’t up for it, then they could go talk to Sully (GM Jon-Eric Sullivan). This is the time to find out as we build this thing and grow, who are the real guys? Like, who are the guys that we can trust that want in the boat. When we flip this thing, and we will flip this thing, (who) we want to have around.

And the only way you find out those things is by going through adversity together. And we’re going to find out a lot about the guys. If there’s any guys (not bought in), then they won’t be here.”

— Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley

I don’t know how successful the Miami Dolphins are ultimately going to be this season. And, as Hafley has stated, the process will likely reveal more victories than the win column based on the circumstances around the team. But I don’t know how you don’t listen to Jeff Hafley and imagine this team will do anything other than continue buying in. This roster is filled with hand-picked youngsters and a slew of last-chance veterans. They, generally speaking, are already either tailored for this regime or don’t have a choice.

But, as Hafley stated, if they ultimately aren’t bought in, they could always go talk to Sully.
