The Miami Dolphins’ ongoing hunt for a few diamonds in the rough just got a major boost in time for the start of October.
The Miami Dolphins are making a bit of a habit of turning over a roster spot or two each and every week. Such is life in the NFL when your depth is limited and you are starting a new build.
So it should be no surprise each week when general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan sets about trying to toggle in some fresh faces and keep the competition for playing time high. There’s good news on that front for Miami. Their standing in the bidding order to claim players off of the waiver wire just got a major boost.
Miami Dolphins leap up to 5th in the 2026 NFL waiver wire order as league shifts to current records
Upon reaching Week 4 each season, the NFL flips their waiver wire order from the previous offseason’s NFL draft order to a reflection of the current year’s standings. Miami, of course, was originally scheduled to pick 11th in the 2026 NFL Draft. That was thanks to finishing the 2025 season with a 7-10 record. As of today, Miami’s shortcomings in the win column dictate that ranking. And it puts the Dolphins 5th in the waiver wire order for Week 4.
Should the Dolphins lose to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 while any of the league’s other 0-3 teams claim a win, Miami would move in front of them and rise higher in the waiver order for the following week. The opposite is also true, too — a win would bucket the Dolphins into a crowded field of one-win teams. And Miami’s opponent strength of schedule would drop them to last among the teams with the same record. That’s thanks in part to the Dolphins being the first team since 1986 to face four consecutive teams that started the year 3-0.
