Tennessee Vols legend Jason Witten just got thrown into a tough situation at Oklahoma

Tennessee Vols legend Jason Witten got thrown into an interesting, and potentially tough, situation on Monday at Oklahoma.
Witten, who is in his first season as the Sooners’ tight ends coach, has been named Oklahoma’s interim offensive coordinator after the program fired Ben Arbuckle on Monday.
The former Vol will reportedly be calling offensive plays moving forward.
This is an exciting opportunity for Witten, but it’s also a tough spot. The Sooners are obviously struggling offensively, and Witten, who has never called plays at the collegiate level before, will be expected to help get the offense back on track.
I’m not sure that’s a fair expectation for someone who is taking over a broken offense and has never called plays before.
Witten has a bright coaching future. And he’ll be better because of this opportunity. But if the Sooners’ offense continues to struggle, an unfair narrative could form about Witten.
The good news for Witten is that offensive analyst Kevin Wilson, a former Sooners offensive coordinator who coached alongside Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel at Oklahoma in the mid to late 2000s, will be around to help.
But if things continue to go south for Oklahoma’s offense, it’ll be Witten’s name that gets unfairly thrown into headlines.
