If you wondered why the Green Bay Packers had signed quarterback Cam Miller to their practice squad on Monday, that’s because they are losing another signal-caller. The Baltimore Ravens signed Kedon Slovis off the Packers’ practice squad to their 53-man roster.

The Ravens are going through several quarterback injuries. Lamar Jackson could miss the rest of the season with a thumb injury, while his backup Tyler Huntley has a turf toe. Even third-string quarterback Joe Fagnano is handling an ankle injury. The Ravens had also added Austin Reed to the practice squad, but Slovis brings more experience to the equation.

Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork worked with Kedon Slovis in Arizona, which helps explain the decision.

Slovis trajectory in Green Bay

Kedon Slovis is a 25-year-old quarterback who spent two months with the Packers. Originally signed by the Indianapolis Colts in 2024, he’s also played for the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.

Waived by the Cardinals during final roster cuts, Slovis was signed by the Packers’ practice squad after Green Bay traded third-string quarterback Kyle McCord to the Miami Dolphins for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

With Jordan Love and Tyrod Taylor both healthy, the Packers didn’t need to elevate Slovis for any regular season game.

Quarterback change

On Monday night, the Packers signed Cam Miller to their practice squad. The reason at that point was unclear, but now it makes sense. Green Bay had already worked out Miller in September, so the young passer was also on their radar.

Slovis doesn’t have much regular season experience, but he did appear in two games last year for the Cardinals. He completed only one of two passes for -2 yards, with a 56.2 passer rating.

For Green Bay, the situation won’t change much. They still have Love and Taylor on the 53-man roster and a young, developmental quarterback without much upside on the practice squad in case of an emergency and to run the scout team in practice.
