Alabama predicted to get a huge win in its 2028 recruiting class following an elite recruit’s visit on homecoming in Tuscaloosa
The Alabama Crimson Tide are on a bye week, and the recruiting staff is still stacking wins. A top-30 prospect left Tuscaloosa impressed after homecoming, and the bigger picture for the 2028 class says plenty about the plan.
It might be the bye week in Tuscaloosa, but the Alabama Crimson Tide isn’t slowing down on the recruiting trail. Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong posted that he has logged an expert prediction for Alabama to land elite defensive lineman Tyzon Swann, one of the top prospects in the 2028 recruiting class.
It’s the latest step in what is shaping up to be a strong class for Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer and GM Courtney Morgan. And it comes right after one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the fall in Tuscaloosa.
Tyzon Swann Facts
- Ranks No. 27 nationally in the 2028 recruiting class.
- Ranks No. 5 among interior defensive linemen in the 2028 class.
- Visited Alabama for homecoming weekend against Texas A&M.
Tyzon Swann came away impressed after Alabama’s homecoming win
The prediction lands on the heels of homecoming weekend, when the Crimson Tide picked up a big win over the Texas A&M Aggies. Alabama had a ton of recruits on campus to soak in that environment, and Swann was one of them.
Swann said after his visit via Rivals:
“The environment was great. This was my first SEC game. I had a great time. What continues to stand out is a defensive line and the defensive scheme that they run, and my relationship with the players and coaches.”
That’s exactly what you want to hear if you’re Alabama. A first SEC game experience is one thing, but Swann pointing to the defensive line, the scheme, and his relationships with the staff tells you the Crimson Tide are selling more than a big Saturday crowd.
Recruiting is a big part of the job for Alabama’s staff
I know Kane Wommack and some of the coaches on Alabama’s staff have taken criticism this season. But recruiting is also a big part of the job. It isn’t just scheme, and it isn’t just three or four hours on Saturdays. It’s making sure you have a pipeline of up-and-coming recruits and commitments to keep the good times rolling.
Well, Alabama’s 2028 class is proving that to be true. According to Bama 24/7, the Crimson Tide rank No. 2 overall in the 2028 recruiting class.
Adding a player of Swann’s caliber would only strengthen that standing, especially at a position as valuable as interior defensive line.
Why the 2028 class may be Alabama’s priority
To be fair, the 2027 recruiting class hasn’t exactly been a strength for the Crimson Tide. But the 2028 group is looking like one of the better ones of the DeBoer era, and quite frankly, I think that might be on purpose.
2027 is going to be a year where Alabama has a lot of players from the 2025 and 2026 classes stepping into bigger roles. The staff likes those groups, and it should give them a chance to grow into the lineup together.
Additionally, the Crimson Tide are going to hit the transfer portal hard yet again. So the staff isn’t as keen on the 2027 class outside of its quarterbacks, like Elijah Haven and Trent Seaborn, and a few other players, such as Osani Gayles.
That approach puts a lot of weight on what Alabama does in the 2028 cycle. If DeBoer and Morgan can keep stacking talent like Swann, the payoff down the road could be significant.
For now, the bye week gives the Crimson Tide a chance to regroup on the field. Off the field, 2028 is shaping up to be special.
