LSU may have lost a lot more than just a game against Ole Miss in what could be brutal news for the Tigers
LSU Tigers now have a major injury worry on their hands following the huge Week 3 game against the Ole Miss Rebels.
The LSU Tigers just took a tough loss on the chin against the Ole Miss Rebels in what was an electric college football game. LSU was on the wrong side of a 32-24 defeat, and they have more worries than just the loss on the football field coming out of this one.
LSU star tight end Trey’Dez Green left Saturday’s 32-24 loss to Ole Miss with what appears to be a right leg or knee injury, and the early outlook is troubling for a team with a grueling schedule still ahead.
Green exited the game with about 14 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, unable to put much weight on his right leg as he was helped off the field.
According to On3’s Wilson Alexander, Green was loaded onto a cart and taken to the locker room after needing assistance leaving the injury tent on the sideline. He appeared unable to put weight on his right leg getting onto the cart.
LSU has a Trey’Dez Green injury to worry about after losing to Ole Miss
The 6-foot-7, 245-pound tight end led LSU with 60 receiving yards on four catches in the loss despite missing the majority of the fourth quarter. Coming into the Week 3 matchup, Green already had 162 receiving yards on 10 catches through the first two games of the 2026 season. In 2025, he posted 433 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches with what was poor quarterback play for LSU.
Green is considered a potential first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft and is a center piece of what the Tigers and coach Lane Kiffin want to do on offense. To say the least, the early signs did not look good for the star tight end.
When Green left the game, LSU was driving and trailed 24-21. The Tigers were able to cap off that drive with a field goal to tie it up, but those were the last points LSU scored. The No. 7 Tigers had a chance to tie the game late with goal to go, but quarterback Sam Leavitt threw an interception on fourth-and-goal to end it.
The loss itself stings, but the potential absence of Green could have far greater consequences for LSU’s season. Ole Miss led 24-7 at halftime before LSU outscored the Rebels 17-8 in the second half to make it a game. The Tigers showed fight, but not enough to overcome the early deficit.
LSU is only three weeks into the 2026 season, and the schedule does not get any easier. The Tigers play Texas A&M a week from now, and their November stretch of games against Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee will be the deciding factor for what this team is.
If LSU loses Green for any significant amount of time, it would be a devastating loss for an offense that relies heavily on his presence. Now the Tigers wait for the verdict on the injury, and the coming days will be telling for both Green’s status and LSU’s outlook for the rest of the season.
