Sam Leavitt will be the second transfer quarterback from Arizona State to start for the LSU Tigers in the last four years.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, of course, started for LSU in 2022 and 2023 after spending the first three seasons of his career at Arizona State.

Leavitt and Daniels didn’t cross paths at Arizona State — Leavitt played for the Sun Devils three seasons after Daniels — but you’d think given the similar career paths that the two quarterbacks would have connected at some point.

But apparently that’s not the case.

Leavitt was asked on Monday if he has a relationship with Daniels or if he’s talked to the former LSU quarterback before.

Shockingly, Leavitt said he hasn’t talked with Daniels.

“I haven’t been in contact with Jayden,” said Leavitt. “[But I’ve heard] great things about him at ASU and at LSU. Nothing but respect for him. But no, I’ve not been in contact.”

I’m not going to try to read into why the two former Sun Devils/Tigers haven’t talked — both guys are obviously pretty busy — but it blows my mind that they haven’t at least texted.

Daniels, after all, has plenty of advice he could offer. He took the same path as Leavitt, and he was incredibly successful while doing it. Leavitt could almost certainly benefit from getting some advice from Daniels — even if it’s non-football related.

Maybe the two will connect in the future. The Commanders play on Thursday the week that LSU plays Texas at home, so maybe we’ll see Daniels in Baton Rouge that Saturday.
