After five straight wins following a 0-2 beginning to the 2025 college football season, head coach Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are set for an important five-game stretch coming off their final bye week of the year. The mission is quite simple for Freeman and Notre Dame: If you win out, you are most likely going to earn a spot in the College Football Playoffs. If you lose one more game, there is a zero percent chance that you qualify for the field.

This winning streak should continue this weekend when they travel to take on head coach Bill O’Brien and the Boston College Eagles, a team that has been struggling mightily over the last month and a half. With how the Irish seem to be rounding into form at the right time, this should be a relatively easy matchup, at least on paper anyway. Coming off that bye week, there also shouldn’t be any threat of a trap or letdown game, hopefully anyway.

The Fighting Irish offense has a clear mismatch in this contest against the BC defense. This feels like the perfect opportunity for redshirt freshman quarterback CJ Carr to get back on track after a struggling outing against the USC Trojans two weeks ago. Even if Carr isn’t the best version of himself, the Eagle run defense has an extremely tough task against Irish superstar Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price. You have to feel pretty good about Love continuing his case for the Heisman Trophy in this contest.

On the defensive side of the football, Chris Ash’s defense has been a ton better over the last several games. This contest is about continuing that momentum and defeating a struggling Boston College offensive unit. There is no reason that the defense won’t be able to keep that confidence. If they do come out flat, that is a really bad sign.
