Notre Dame football is getting ready for an important official visitor weekend that will include a long list of top 2027 recruiting targets. One of the more important targets who will be in South Bend is elite Exton (Pa.) Downingtown East EDGE Abraham Sesay. A top target for the Fighting Irish, head coach Marcus Freeman and the team are hoping to close the deal with a great trip, potentially.

Heading into the visit, Rivals national recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong gave the latest on Sesay’s recruitment. He is still confident in Notre Dame’s standing with the Pennsylvania pass rusher. Here is what Wiltfong wrote about the latest with Sesay.

5-star Edge Abraham Sesay

The buzz continues to favor Notre Dame for the Downingtown (Pa.) East pass rusher with Sesay set to return to South Bend this weekend for his official visit. LSU looks like the biggest competitor with Sesay enjoying his spring and summer trips to Baton Rouge. Duke and Florida State round out the finalists.

I also remain very positive about where Notre Dame stands with Sesay. Penn State has fought hard throughout this recruitment, and so has Duke, though he ultimately did not take his official visit with the Blue Devils this past weekend. The LSU Tigers also made a strong push two weekends ago, but the Fighting Irish remain unfazed. They are the team to beat, like they have been for a long time.

Notre Dame holds commitments from 2027 defensive ends Aidan O’Neil and Jackson Vaughn, which is a great start to the class. Sesay can be an exclamation point for an elite three-man defensive end group. This weekend will be huge for solidifying its status with Sesay.

Abraham Sesay’s recruiting background

Sesay is a four-star player and near-consensus top-100 recruit on each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Sesay currently sits as the No. 50 overall player, the No. 8 EDGE, and the No. 3 player from the state of Pennsylvania for the 2027 recruiting class. 247 Sports is the highest on the Pennsylvania native right now, pegging him as the No. 27 overall player and No. 6 EDGE in the class, while Rivals isn’t far behind.

The 6-5, 225-pound pass rusher has demanded the attention of some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of Sesay’s top offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Penn State, Ole Miss, Auburn, USC, Nebraska, Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State, UNC, Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Duke, and Northwestern, among several others.

As a junior, Sesay put together a tremendous season for Downingtown East. The talented pass rusher recorded around 80 total tackles and 13 sacks. With long limbs and explosiveness, Sesay has the talent to develop into a big-time defensive end on the college level. As he continues to grow into his frame, there is no reason why he can’t become a stellar three-down player.
