Saturday was all about the Ohio State Buckeyes taking on the Texas Longhorns in a top-5 battle in Austin. Ohio State’s second half letdown led to an 24-23 road loss for the Buckeyes against Texas.

Away from that matchup, a development took place that isn’t good news for the Buckeyes and something they never want to see.

Five-star pass rusher DJ Jacobs, the No. 1 player in the class of 2027, has been committed to Ohio State since Dec. 2025. Since then, there’s been slight worry that other programs could potentially have a chance at flipping Jacobs from the Buckeyes. 

The two schools most talked about as potential flip destinations are Miami and Tennessee, but Jacobs spent Week 2 of the college football season at another major powerhouse.

DJ Jacobs made a surprise visit to a major SEC school on Saturday

The Roswell, Georgia, native was at Georgia’s game against Western Kentucky on Saturday, according to On3’s UGA Sports. Jacobs made his way to Athens on a surprise visit with his younger brother, four-star defensive lineman Dawson Jacobs, who the Buckeyes are recruiting as well.

This could have been a case where Jacobs was simply with his younger brother on a visit since the family was going to be there anyway. Still, it’s negative news for Ohio State considering Jacobs’ recruitment remains open. Despite being committed to the Buckeyes, he is still listening to other schools, and Georgia got him in person on Saturday for a blowout win over Western Kentucky.

Jacobs remains committed to Ohio State in what is the most important commitment in the class of 2027 for the program. The Buckeyes never want to see their committed players taking visits to other teams’ games, though, especially a home-state program that could end up turning up the pressure for a player like Jacobs.

Georgia’s proximity to Jacobs’ hometown of Roswell makes the Bulldogs a natural threat. Whether Saturday’s visit was a family trip or the beginning of something more is a question Ohio State will be keeping a close eye on going forward.
