The big Week 1 matchup to kick off the college football season in Columbus is just a couple of days away as the Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Texas Longhorns.
It’s No. 1 vs. No. 2, with Arch Manning beginning his era at Texas while Julian Sayin does the same for the Buckeyes.
Sayin is making his first career college start, and he’ll do it against the top-ranked team in the nation. Whether at home or on the road, that’s a tough task for a true sophomore.
Brandon Inniss shows why he is a captain when talking about Julian Sayin
Inniss is set to take a big step for the Buckeyes this season as their No. 3 wideout and primary slot option, replacing Emeka Egbuka, who departed for the NFL. The junior recently texted Sayin to tell him he was proud of him—a small gesture to boost his confidence.
“He hasn’t started a game yet, but the plays he makes in practice, the consistency he’s shown, the way he’s become a much more vocal leader in the huddle—I’ve been seeing everything great from him,” Inniss explained.
“We texted last night, and I just told him I was proud of him. As a QB he feels so much pressure right now. A lot of people don’t tell him that, and I just felt like it was something I wanted to say to help him calm down and feel good about himself.”
Sayin, a former five-star recruit and one of the top quarterbacks in the class of 2024, could easily be leading Alabama right now if not for Nick Saban’s retirement. Instead, he’s set to begin his journey as the guy in Columbus, and there’s plenty of optimism around that.
Ryan Day has had tremendous success with quarterbacks at Ohio State, with transfer Will Howard being the latest. Sayin has the chance to be the next special one in line.
On Saturday, just before noon, Sayin will run out to a crowd of over 100,000 screaming fans to face the Longhorns.
